There are days that stand out in the story of an organization where purpose, partnership, and community come together in a way that feels both powerful and promising. One such day for the Greater Haitian American Chamber of Commerce (GHACC) took place at the beautiful Disney Caribbean Beach Club, where our Board of Directors and KONBIT members from Disney gathered for an unforgettable meeting rooted in culture, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the Haitian-American community.
From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was full of warmth and genuine hospitality. Surrounded by the vibrant energy of the resort, we were welcomed not just as guests, but as partners in a shared mission. The setting was ideal while also relaxing and it laid the perfect backdrop for a day of meaningful dialogue and cultural celebration.
A Taste of Haiti, Right at Disney
What made this meeting truly special was the way our cultures were honored and celebrated throughout the experience. Haitian beverages like Prestige beer and Barbancourt rum were shared with pride, offering a taste of home to many of us in the room. These familiar drinks served as more than just refreshments they were symbols of heritage, unity, and the flavors of our roots. The culinary team at the Caribbean Beach Club went above and beyond with a menu that delighted everyone at the table. The food, prepared with great care, brought both elegance and authenticity to the experience. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire team, and most especially to Chef Williere Justin, whose leadership and hospitality made this gathering a success in every sense of the word.
Chef Williere’s passion and intentionality were evident in every detail of the day, from the menu to the atmosphere. His ongoing efforts to bridge our two communities have not gone unnoticed, and GHACC is truly grateful for his continued advocacy and belief in what we can build together.
The Power and Promise of KONBIT
A particularly meaningful part of the gathering was the opportunity to meet with members of KONBIT, Disney’s Haitian Task Force. The term “konbit” in Haitian Creole translates to “teamwork”, and it couldn’t be more fitting. KONBIT represents the power of unity and where professionals coming together to support one another while simultaneously elevating our shared Haitian culture within a global organization like Walt Disney World.
At GHACC, we deeply believe in the value of KONBIT, not only as a cultural principle but as a model for sustainable and inclusive collaboration. The shared conversations we had that day with the KONBIT Members were thoughtful, sincere, and inspiring. Together, we explored mutual goals and future possibilities, particularly in creating more pathways for Haitian-American workforce development, business advancement, and community engagement throughout Central Florida and beyond.
This was more than a meeting, it was a moment of mutual respect, shared joy, and cultural pride. It was a gathering of minds and hearts committed to building something meaningful for the Haitian-American community.
