The Greater Haitian American Chamber of Commerce (GHACC) is proud to announce a cultural partnership with Opera Orlando for the Florida premiere of Treemonisha, a groundbreaking and long-overdue celebration of legacy, leadership, and community through the lens of African-American history and artistry.
Opening Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Treemonisha is a rarely performed operatic masterpiece composed by the legendary Scott Joplin. The production, under the direction of Roberta Emerson and conducted by Everett McCorvey, reimagines the story in the historic Eatonville community—an intentional and powerful connection to Central Florida’s cultural roots.
As a special gesture of our ongoing collaboration, Opera Orlando has gifted GHACC four complimentary tickets to the opening night performance. These tickets will be made available to a select group of GHACC Members, who will also enjoy an exclusive Meet & Greet with the Cast following the performance.
The opera Treemonisha tells the inspiring story of a young Black woman who guides her community out of ignorance and into a future built on education and unity. This timely and uplifting tale resonates deeply with audiences today, continuing Scott Joplin’s legacy of visionary storytelling. We’re honored to partner once again with Opera Orlando for this historic production. This is more than a performance it’s a celebration of Black culture, leadership, and artistry that aligns beautifully with our Chamber’s values and mission.
GHACC is also pleased to announce that Opera Orlando performers will be featured during our Haitian Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday, May 17th at Bon Appétit Grill, and will return for a featured performance at our Annual Soirée on Saturday, November 15th later this year. These collaborations reflect our commitment to creating meaningful cultural connections through the arts.
